Abstract

The objective was to design and psychometrically validate a pictorial scale on the motivation towards sports practice in children 6 to 11 years of age. Two studies were carried out using different samples (132 and 156 students, aged 6 to 11, respectively). In study 1, the Pictorial Scale of Sports Motivation in infant People (EPMDI) was designed, checking its exploratory factorial structure and internal consistency. In study 2, the Pictorial Scale of Sports Motivation in infant People (EPMDI) and the Scale of Perceived Infant Motor Competence were completed. The results confirmed an adequate psychometric structure for the EPMDI, leaving nine items (image and phrase) in three dimensions of three items each (intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and demotivation). This instrument is valid and reliable for evaluating motivation towards physical-sports practice at an early age, requiring more studies to corroborate the results obtained.
