Doctor by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid with the thesis Nuevos recubrimientos sol-gel para la protección activa de aleaciones de magnesio 2018. Supervised by Dr. Antonia Jiménez Morales, Dr. Juan Carlos Galvan Sierra.

Federico García received his PhD with international mention in Materials Science and Engineering (cum laude) at the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) in November 2018. He was awarded with an UC3M extraordinary PhD award 2018-2019. During the 2011-2013 period, he worked at UC3M as a senior graduate with three contracts associated to a research project. From January 2014 to June 2018, he had a pre-doctoral position at CENIM supported by the Ministry of Competitiveness and Economy (MINECO). From July 2018 to February 2019 he had a temporary contract associated with a research project at CENIM. During these periods, he had two international stays, one of them at the Univ. of Manchester (Oct-Dec 2013) funded with a grant for the mobility of research staff from UC3M and another one at Nottingham Trent Univ. (March-June 2016) funded with a mobility grant for predoctoral students from the MINECO. Since January 2019, he works as an adjunct professor at the European University of Madrid (UEM), teaching courses of Thermodynamics, Thermal Engineering and Fluid Mechanics in the degree of Industrial Engineering. From March 2020, he is co-director of the Master's Degree Program in Industrial Engineering of the UEM, teaching courses of Energy Technology and Process Technology in Chemical Engineering. In relation with his international connections, he has one publication in Prog. Org. Coat. with Prof. C. Perry (Nottingham Trent Univ., UK) and Dr. A.A. El Hadad (McGill Univ., Montreal, Canada). In 2015, he collaborated at CENIM in the training of two graduate students form the Univ. Simon Bolivar, Venezuela, with whom published 2 papers in Corr. Sci. and RSC Advances, respectively. In 2018, he collaborated with Prof. L. Veleva in the training of 3 graduate students from the Center for Research and Adv. Studies, Mérida, Mexico, with whom he published 2 papers in Metals and Rev. Metal Madrid. He has 17 publications (12 scientific articles and 5 book chapters). 14 of these publications are indexed in WoS. The cross search of the candidate production in WoS and Scopus, returned that 10 of these papers were ranked in the first quartile (Q1) either in WoS or Scopus. 4 of them were also located in the first decile (D1). He also has 4 book chapters, which are classified as Q1 in the CSIC databases. He has participated in 10 national scientific meetings and 21 international meetings, most of them by oral presentations. Several of these communications are indexed in Google Scholar. He has participated in 4 projects financed by the R+D+i National Programs. He has collaborated in the request of a HH2020 Project (CE-SC5-07-2018-2019-2020 call), led by Dr. V. Barranco at CENIM. Currently, he is an external member of the CENIM work team of a R+D+i Project funded by the Government of Spain (PID2019-104717RB-I00 Project). His mid-to-long term scientific-technical interests and objectives are focused on four lines of research closely related to the electrochemistry of materials: 1) Self-repairing sol-gel coatings for active protection of metal surfaces. 2) Multifunctional materials for energy storage systems (supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries). 3) Corrosion and Protection of light alloys (Ti, Al and Mg) for aerospace and biomedical applications. 4) Applications of electrochemical impedance spectroscopies (LEIS and EIS) in Material Science.
