ARROYO ZAPATERO

Carlos Arroyo is a Linguist (IoLET-London 1990), Architect and Urban Planner (ETSAM 1997), and Researcher (DEA-ETSAM 2002, PhD 2018). His Madrid based office for Architecture and Urbanism has an international scope, with award-winning work and projects in Spain, France, Belgium, Rwanda, Colombia and Argentina, developing protocols for innovation on all scales, from building technology to landscape management, creating new types of public building, or researching into new forms of housing. His benchmarks include: • Nobelia (Rwanda), top Green Building Council GS-SA rating: World Leadership 6 Stars, the first in Africa outside South Africa. • MdP La Lainière, the first registered C2C (Cradle to Cradle Inspired) building in France. • OostCampus (Belgium), now a reference for the design of City Halls in Belgium, winning “Prijs Bowmeester” national award for Public Buildings, “Holcim Silver Award” for Sustainable Architecture in Europe, and selected in Archdaily's 2012 list of 65 Best New Buildings in the World. His projects have been exhibited in international venues like the Venice Biennale (8th 14th and 16th) or the Institut Français d’Architecture, and featured in hundreds of international publications in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas. He has taught and lectured in over 50 institutions and universities all over the world, including Tokyo University, New York’s AIA, Princeton, Boston MIT, Berlin TU, Vienna AK, Milano, Paris, Bogotá, Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires. He currently teaches in Universidad Europea de Madrid, where he is Academic Curator of the Masters in Architecture. He is a Member of the Europan Europe Scientific Committee since 2004, helping cities across Europe find the right strategy for their future. Since 2018 he runs Digital Rural Lab, a spinoff that deals with digital transformation in rural areas.
