Abstract
Introduction: The undesirable effect resulting in a NICU stay in prematures and their families, can be reduced by implementing Centered Care and Family Development. This study was conducted in the NICU of a hospital in Madrid, with the purpose of promoting reflection to improve clinical practice in the care of children and their families. Methodology: Qualitative Methodology, Participatory Action Research. Made between EMU professors and hospital's professionals. Techniques for gathering information: Three focus groups, six field journals and three semi-structured interviews. Results: Two themes emerge: professional and social change in the functioning of the NICU and breastfeeding as the core of the conflict. Professionals perceive change processes in the NICU are huge and are being implemented too quickly. Most see it as an imposition and this generates attitudes of rejection and resistance. In breastfeeding converge much of the conflict. Conclusions: The imposition has generated attitudes of rejection and resistance among professionals and is having a major influence on the problems of communication and relationship between professionals and parents and intraprofessional. Improve clinical practice through dialogue with and among professionals.
