Abstract

This paper studies whether the family character of the company has an influence when deciding to start up an export strategy and the relevance of debt when facing this decision. To do so, a review of the literature on the subject has been developed and an empirical analysis using a sample of 1 . 846 businesses, which include both family and non - family firms. The results seem to show that family character is not a determinant factor when deciding to export, nevertheless, the importance of debt differs among family and non - family firms.
