Supervised by Dr. Marta Ortiz Rivera, Dr. Laura Benítez Rico.

She is currently Full Professor in Microbiology at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences from the “Universidad Europea de Madrid” and is also Director of the Master's Degree in Microbiota, Probiotics and Prebiotics, and is part of the "Global Health" and "Innovative Seed Lab" research groups at the mentioned University. She received her PhD in 2008 with the maximum qualification of outstanding "cum laude" with the thesis title " Expresión heteróloga de la proteína mayor de la cápsida (L1) del virus del papiloma humano tipo 18. Purificación y caracterización de proteínas recombinantes y partículas similares al virus (VLPs)". During this period he carried out research stays in prestigious international centers such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, GA, USA) and the “Instituto de Biologia e tecnología” (IBET, Oeiras, Lisbon, Portugal). Subsequently, she works as postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Microbiology of the “Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León (ITACyL)”, to develop the European project VITAL, related to the detection, quantification and characterization of foodborne viruses and to develop standardized protocols for the detection of risks similar to those that already existed in relation to foodborne bacteria. From September 2011 to October 2018 she worked as a post-Doctoral Fellow at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), “Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica (CSIC-ICP)”, in the Systems Biotechnology research group of Dr. Manuel Ferrer Martínez, participating in several National and International research projects. Most of these projects were related to the discovery, characterization, and improvement of enzymes with potential industrial applicability (esterases, proteases, transaminases, etc). In addition, I collaborated in projects related to bioremediation and finally in projects of study and characterization of the composition and involvement of the intestinal microbiota in various pathological processes. Her professional skills include nucleic acid preparation techniques for metagenomic analysis, metagenomic data analysis, protein preparation techniques for proteomic analysis, techniques for detection of microorganisms in materials of different origins (PCR and quantitative PCR), techniques for cloning, expression and characterization of recombinant proteins, recombinant enzyme analysis, rational mutagenesis, management of bioinformatics tools for massive data analysis. She is the author of "28" peer-reviewed scientific articles, 7 book chapters and 17 communications to national and international congresses.
