Abstract

This article examines a time in Western thought when the refutation of experience managed to hollow the certainty of authorized knowledge. In this context, the need arose to discover new criteria for truth that could erase such ever-growing uncertainty. Thus, exploring the work of Thomas More and Michel de Montaigne, this paper addresses the necessary transformation of philosophy inevitable brought about by the questioning of experience.
