Abstract

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors account for less than 3% of pancreatic neoplasms. Their association with pancreatitis may be caused by ductal tumor obstruction but may be causal because of the coexistence of both entities. We present a case of casual association of chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor and perform a systematic review. We obtained 325 articles and selected 6, all clinical cases, where this relationship was not justified by tumor ductal obstruction. In conclusion, the coexistence of chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor in the absence of obstructive tumor cause is an exceptional finding whose physiopathology remains to be clarified. Immunohistochemical and molecular markers may help to define it.
