Abstract

The introduction of sport in non-formal education programs for young people does not necessarily imply the training in values and emotional competencies that are attributed to it, as there are several aspects that condition it. That is why this work aims to find areas for improvement in the implementation of these programs that show their effectiveness and ensure their acquisition. To carry out the study, a mixed methodological approach was used to analyze the impact of the use of basketball as a tool to improve physical condition and health, as well as the acquisition of values and emotional competencies in a sample of adolescents living at risk of social exclusion. Data related to life habits, physical fitness parameters and perceptions of participants during the intervention were collected through 2 studies over 2 seasons and where different areas of improvement were applied among them. The analysis of the data shows the need to increase the physical demands during training, adding specific activities on values and emotional aspects and where the training of coaches represented a key element.
