Zusammenfassung

Turkey and Saudi Arabia are two of the great powers in the Middle East. In the main crises and conflicts that have arisen in the region in the last years, both countries have assumed a prominent and major role. The foreign policies of Turkey and Saudi Arabia have had to adapt to a new period characterized by turmoil and uncertainty. The strategies developed by the two States become visible a certain incompatibility in the interests and goals. Bilateral relations are marked by rivalry at different spots in the surroundings, with two relevant events: the Qatar blockade 2017 and the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. The paper analyzes Turkish-Saudi relations from the frenemy conceptual framework and in the phase between 2017-2021, where both areas of tension and confrontation prevail, as well as cooperation between countries.
