Abstract

High school bullying is one of the most prominent problems that can be found in schools. Currently, Emotional Intelligence is being a widely used resource in the prevention of this phenomenon. The study participants were 189 students between 11 and 15 years old, of which 99 were girls belonging to compulsory secondary education educational centers. The objective of our research was the application of a program whose objective was the promotion of emotional intelligence to prevent and avoid situations of school bullying that occur in the classroom. For the pretest and posttest evaluation of the levels of bullying and Emotional Intelligence, the following instruments were used: School Aggression Test (Bull-S), Social Competency Questionnaire (MESSY), Motivational Test for Adolescents (SMAT), child and adolescent self-control (CACIA) and List of adjectives for the evaluation of self-concept (LAEA). The results that were obtained showed that after applying the Program, the students showed an increase in emotional intelligence levels and a reduction in bullying behaviors, especially in Social Competence and empathy. This work demonstrates the influence of Emotional Intelligence and Bullying, using new technologies, thus facilitating a useful tool for teachers.
