Resum

Introduction: Following tooth loss, alveolar bone resorption and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus occur, which can sometimes make it difficult to place implants. One of the techniques to address this problem is sinus lift surgery, although a thorough evaluation must be carried out beforehand, since the sinus could present pathologies that might cause complications. One of the most common pathologies is sinus cysts. Purpose: To assess the possibility of performing maxillary sinus lift surgery in the presence of sinus cysts. Methodology: A search was carried out through scientific databases. After submitting the bibliography to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 26 articles are referenced. Results and discussion: The presence of these lesions was previously believed to be a contraindication. However, the authors state that maxillary sinus lifts can be performed even when a sinus cyst is present. There are currently three main approaches to treating maxillary sinus cysts in patients who undergo sinus lifts: removal before surgery, during surgery, or without removal. The most important factor is choosing the right surgical plan. Conclusion: The presence of sinus cysts is currently considered a risk factor for sinus lift surgery, but it is not a contraindication. All three approaches have been shown to yield positive results.
