Abstract

This article shows a bibliographic review on pathological jealousy and analyses the variables involved in its origin and maintenance. The information gathered proves the clinical importance of disassembling the myths and romantic perspective that still impregnates our couple relationships nowadays. Furthermore, we expose the analysis of a single case studio, in which the treatment of the pathological jealousy in the female counterpart of a heterosexual couple is approached. In this regard, the article shows thoroughly the psychotherapeutic procedure which was performed in both individually and by couple and the obtained results after 16 psychotherapeutic sessions. The treatment plan is elaborated under the principles of the cognitive behavioural stream, due to its proven effectiveness in the intervention of this syndrome. Finally, the complexity and the numerous factors underlying pathological jealousy are highlighted.
