Zusammenfassung

The 17th Century is a fascinating period in the political and cultural European history. Spain carries on with her long fight in the Low Countries. It is also when the Thirty Years War takes place, and the origin of the two new countries Holland and Belgium. On the whole, I introduce here the figure of Hugo Grotius, a Dutch lawyer and politician, author of the treatise on war and peace: De iure belli acpacis (1625). However, I will deal with the great influence of the Escuela de Salamanca on Grotius; and I will prove the importance of Francisco de Vitoria in the European cultural thought of the 18th Century.
