Abstract

The aim of this work is to investigate the relationship between dental alterations found in childhood patients with celiac disease. It’s important that dental practitioners consider this autoimmune disease as a possible aetiology of dental alterations. The main data founded show that 51.1% of the celiac patients present chronological and symmetrical defects on the enamel. We also study the veracity of the relationship between enamel defects in the temporal dentition and celiac disease. The formation of the deciduous teeth develops during the intrauterine phase, but the complete temporal dentition ends the calcification at 10-12 months of life. The cause of DED doesn’t have of scientific evidence but some hypothesis about malabsorption and immunological factors are still analysing. The relationship between enamel alterations in celiac patients is evident and scientifically confirmed. The role of the dentist as the first diagnostic figure of the oral signs and symptoms is considered fundamental to allow the diagnosis of the undetected portion of celiac patients.
