Abstract

The implantology is an increasingly common specialty in our consultations has ocasionated also the knowledge of the diseases associated with dental implants, both in the rehabilitation process and in the manteinance period. Actually, there are published numerous studies about peri-implant disease, with significant differences in the results of incidence and prevalence of disease as well as techniques to be used for the treatment of peri-implant diseases, including those supported by laser and photodynamic therapy who have gained importance in recent years. Photodynamic therapy is a simple, inexpensive and minimally invasive technique that allows a significant reduction in bacterial flora and better treatment outcomes. The application of Er:Yag achieves the same effect and also facilitates cleaning implant surfaces.
