Abstract

Background: One of the most common pathologies observed in pediatric dentistry is a variation in the number of teeth, either dueto an excessive number of teeth, which is known as super numerary teeth, or to missing teeth, which is known as agenesis. When agenesis and supernumerary teeth arise simultane ously in the same individual. this is known as "concomitan! hypo-hyperdontia" (CHH). Case report.: The case is described of a male patient aged 10 years who was diagnosed with double maxillary midline mesiodens following clínica!and radiographical examination, in addition to missing the mandibular left second premolar (3.5). Díscussíon. The existence of "concomitant hypo-hyperdontia" (CHH) in a patient is a rare anomaly in the literature reviewed. The etiology is not completely clear, but various theories have been proposed. Most authors agree on there being local disturbances during the tooth formation period. The condition arises more frequently in men, although the differences are not statistically significan!. Neíther are there statistically significant differences with regard to location. Agenesis and supernumerary teeth are more common in the upper than in the lower jaw, but in this present case agenesis was in the mandible. Conclusion: In conclusion, the early diagnosis of this type of anomaly is very importan!in arder to prevent or minimize future complications, and to start efficient treatment.
