Abstract
Fibromyalgia has a great impact on quality of life and motor activities of daily living. The objective of this Thesis was to study the effect of an exergame-based intervention on the quality of life, pain, heart rate variability, electroencephalographic activity and physical condition of women with fibromyalgia. The secondary objective was to assess the differences between women with fibromyalgia and healthy controls in electroencephalographic activity, as well as during dual-task tests. A series of cross-sectional studies focused on: 1) evaluating the physical condition of women with fibromyalgia under the dual-task paradigm; 2) evaluate the differences in cortical activity between women with fibromyalgia and healthy controls; and 3) a 24-week randomized trial using the exergames. As a result of these studies, 10 articles were published whose main findings were a) the dual-task would cause greater interference in people with fibromyalgia; b) there are differences in electroencephalographic activity between women with fibromyalgia and healthy controls; c) the duration of symptoms seems to influence cortical electrical activity more than age; d) the exergames seem to be effective for improving pain, quality of life, physical condition, autonomic modulation and cortical electrical activity.
