Abstract
A traumatic injury to a primary tooth, in addition to the con-sequences to the traumatized tooth itself, may affect the perma-nent successor that is erupting. This literature review shows a relationship, according to scientific evidence, between a history of traumatic injury to primary teeth and certain sequelae in both the primary and the permanent teeth. These sequelae are more common after the luxation or avulsion of primary teeth and they include color changes, pulp canal obliteration, pulp necrosis and primary tooth loss, in addition to enamel hypoplasia and opacities, disturbances in the eruption process and dilacerations affecting the permanent teeth. A long-term follow up is of great importance in these patients, in order to minimize the impact these sequelae may have on their oral health
