Resumen

El efecto de la edad relativa (RAE) en el deporte consiste en la menor presencia de atletas nacidos en los meses más alejado de la fecha límite establecida por el sistema competitivo, que normalmente coincide con los últimos meses del año. El propósito de este estudio es evaluar si hay un RAE en el fútbol profesional europeo, donde el corte de corriente fuera de la edad para la formación en las diferentes categorías se basa en el año calendario; y su análisis por posición en el terreno de juego. El análisis ha incluido todos los futbolistas que juegan en el campeonato de la liga en el Reino Unido, Italia, Alemania, Francia y España (N = 2.763). Los resultados de nuestro estudio confirman la RAE en el fútbol profesional en Italia, Francia y España. Cuando diferencian por la posición de juego hay una incidencia RAE diferente en los cinco campeonatos analizados.
