Sedación y anestesia general en odontopediatría, ¿Cómo y cuándo?

Abstract
Introdução: A possibilidade de oferecer atendimento odontológico sob sedação ou anestesia geral é cada vez mais solicitada por pais ou responsáveis, particularmente em pacientes pediátricos ou com necessidades especiais, devido a dificuldades de comunicação e à baixa colaboração no tratamento. Objetivos: Esta revisão narrativa da literatura foi realizada com o objetivo de determinar as indicações de sedação e/ou anestesia geral para tratamento odontológico em crianças, além de descrever as diferentes opções de sedação ou anestesia geral e de estabelecer critérios para a alta do paciente tratado sob sedação ou anestesia geral. Métodos: Foi realizada uma busca bibliográfica na base de dados PubMed com as palavras-chave "odontologia pediátrica", "sedação consciente" e "anestesia geral", com o filtro "publicados nos últimos 10 anos", incluindo publicações relevantes ao tema, que fossem revisões ou com um desenho observacional ou transversal. Foram excluídas publicações sobre pacientes adultos, bem como relatos de casos. Resultados: Vinte e nove publicações foram incluídas nesta revisão. Conclusões: A indicação de um determinado grau de sedação ou anestesia geral dependerá do nível de cooperação do paciente, do histórico médico e da extensão do tratamento odontológico necessário. Os principais riscos desses procedimentos incluem alterações respiratórias e reações alérgicas, entre outros. Após a intervenção, o paciente será monitorado até que os critérios para alta sejam atendidos antes de interromper a observação.
