Abstract

There are numerous studies on «energy drinks» in which it is shown that due to the popularity/fashion and campaigns of aggressive advertising marketing has seen an increase in the consumption of such «energy drinks» both acutely and chronically in populations of adolescents and young adults (students). Currently in Europe, including Spain there is no legal definition of «energy drink», being currently classified as «soft drinks», so they have generated and won new spaces, such as sports events, leisure, nightlife, parties, social relations, festivals musical, with which they are also consumed mixed with alcohol and the effects can lead to changes in highrisk behavior at sexual and social level, and produce various pathologies in health. Among the lesser-known pathologies are those that affect the oral cavity. In this work we update the effects of these energy drinks on the teeth, mainly as facilitators of erosion and decay processes. In conclusion, energy drinks can be a problem for public health and as part of our work as dentists we must reinforce hygienic habits, periodic reviews and in regard to the clinical history, deepen in the type of solid food intakes and liquids outside regular hours, and their possible associations with alcohol and other substances in populations of adolescents and young adults.
